Big changes for our daughter
The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions. Our daughter Paloma started Kindergarten two weeks back, and it has been a bit of a rough transition. She went from attending a daycare that she had been at for years with a bunch of friends to knowing no one at her new school.
To help, we've been doing morning affirmations with her and thankfully, it's close enough that I am able to walk her in the morning - so I've been using that brief walk as a time to boost her self esteem as much as possible and remind her how amazing and smart and kind she is in hopes that she will be able to remember that throughout the day.
It's not that I'm deeply concerned for her, in the long term. I know that she's not the only one going through this transition. And I do believe that in a short amount of time, she'll have a bunch of new friends that she'll always be talking about like she had at her daycare.
What was unexpected, was how mentally drained both my wife and me felt for the first week. It's tough to see your child struggling at anything, especially when it comes to school since it's such a big part of her little life.
Thankfully, I've been able to take her to a coffee shop a couple of times to get a small treat. Because sometimes coffee adventures are about healing and helping your child feel better.
