I SUCK AT LATTE ART

I suck at Latte Art. There, I said it.

It's both freeing and fearful to admit a weakness in public. You're opening yourself up to criticism, but direct and indirect. But you are also allowing for the opportunity to learn.

So why do I, a non-coffee professional, want to pour beautiful latte art? Well, as I mentioned in an earlier post, 2021 is the year that I'm stepping up my coffee game. But if I break it down at the most basic level - for no other reason than the mental and creative challenge.

Since beginning Americano Mondays in 2012, I have had the privilege of watching some of the freakin' masters of the craft (cool band name) do their thing at competitions and throwdowns and have always been in awe of their ability.

I understand their drive - that goal to pour the best - control the flow and continuously push yourself further. I freakin' live for that drive.

As a photographer, I have spent over 20 years honing my craft. It's something I know well. I understand composition and lighting. I know how to direct my subjects to capture beautiful images. Yet, I still have so far to go and so much to learn. And I perfectly ok with that.

So here's to learning new things - both in and outside of your chosen craft. I have no freakin' idea if I'll end up learning how to pour a perfect rosetta or tulip - but I'm down to give it a shot.
